ZAMFARA 2027: Gov. Lawal directs council members vying for political office to resign

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has directed all members of the State Executive Council and other political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign. The directive was issued on Monday during the 64th State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Gusau. In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the move is in line with provisions of the Electoral Act and the timetable released for the 2027 elections. According to the statement, all affected officials are to resign on or before March 31, 2026. “The governor has instructed the Secretary to the State Government to issue a circular to all political appointees aspiring for elective offices, mandating them to resign before the stipulated deadline,” the statement said. It further added that the Head of Service has been directed to extend the same instruction to civil servants who intend to contest in the elections. Governor Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance and the development of Zamfara State.
