Videos: El-Rufai arrives home, Amaechi visits

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former Kaduna State governor, has arrived his Abuja residence after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, granted him a temporary release. Read Also: He was released on compassionate grounds to attend his late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai’s burial. She died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday after a period of illness. El-Rufai’s son, Bashir, confirmed his father’s release in a post on his X handle on Friday night. He wrote: “Alhamdulillah. My beloved great legend of a father is being released from his unlawful and illegal detention at the hands of one of the most corrupt agencies in the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is a lame excuse of a pathetic institution. “Thank you all for all the support. Our family shall never forget these times. We have overcome, as the El-Rufais,” he wrote. El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations bordering on financial misconduct and other related matters. Also, El-Rufai is also facing separate prosecution by the Department of State Services, DSS, over alleged phone-tapping claims involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. The Federal High Court in Abuja fixed April 23 for his arraignment in that case.
