Unite against bad governance -  Obi urges opposition after formalising ADC membership

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on all opposition parties to forge a united front against what he described as bad governance, declaring that the 2027 general elections will represent a defining moment for the Nigerian people. Obi said this in a statement posted on X on Sunday, a day after completing his registration in Agulu, Anambra State, following a flag-off ceremony in Awka on Saturday, March 8. The Awka event, which formally launched the ADC’s membership validation and registration exercise in the South-East, drew a significant cross-section of political figures, including two senators, five members of the National Assembly, six state assembly members, and numerous other dignitaries — a turnout that signalled growing momentum behind the opposition platform. Obi said the development followed an earlier gathering of prominent Igbo leaders in Enugu on December 31, where stakeholders from across the region convened to identify the ADC as the most credible platform for political renewal and responsible governance. That meeting brought together an array of heavyweight figures, including Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo and Hon. Gilbert Nnaji from Enugu; former Governor Emeka Ihedioha and Chief Achike Udenwa from Imo; Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Onyema Ugochukwu from Abia; and Senators Ben Ndi Obi, Victor Umeh, and Tony Nwoye, among others, from Anambra. “The forthcoming election in 2027 will not merely be a contest between political parties; it will be a defining choice between the Nigerian people and bad governance,” he said, urging opposition parties to unite in confronting what he described as the failure of the current administration. “Our message is simple — meaningful change begins with participation. The journey toward a New Nigeria that is POssible continues,” he stated. Vanguard News
