Two minor siblings burnt to death in Ondo fire incident

By Dayo Johnson Akure Two minor siblings, Queen Ohwo (6 years), Everlyne Ohwo ( 4 years) have been burnt to death in a tragic fire incident that occurred at their parents residence, located at No. 1 Olaribigbe Street, Zion Area, Ode-Aye, Okitipupa Council Area of Ondo State. Police source, said that the remains of the victims who were daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ohwo Peter, have been evacuated to the Health Centre in Ode-Aye. According to the source, the ugly incident may have resulted from negligence during cooking activities by their parents. Speaking on the tragic incident, the state police command spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said that the police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, “has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the fire outbreak. Abayomi added that “The Divisional Police Officer in Ode-Aye has been directed to cordon off the scene, obtain statements from relevant witnesses, and collaborate with the Federal Fire Services to determine the extent and origin of the fire. While commiserating with the bereaved family over this painful loss, he, urged members of the public to exercise utmost caution in handling fire and cooking appliances to prevent similar tragedies. The police image maker, noted that ” in light of this tragic incident, the Ondo State Police Command urges members of the public to observe fire safety measures, which include never leave cooking unattended, especially when children are around and keeping flammable materials away from cooking areas and open flames. Abayomi equally appealed to parents to ” ensure children are not left alone in homes where fire or heat sources are in use, have basic fire safety tools, such as fire extinguishers or buckets of sand/water, readily available and to educate household members, especially children, on fire hazards and emergency response. He reiterated the commands commitment to safeguarding lives and property and encourages residents to remain safety-conscious at all times.
