By Femi Bolaji, Jalingo The Taraba State University (TSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its month-long strike following a ₦500 million intervention by the state government. Dr. Joshua Mbave, Chairperson of TSU ASUU, confirmed that both the union and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) reached a formal agreement with Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration, which prompted the suspension of the industrial action that began on February 18. Dr. Mbave said, “We reached a healthy agreement with the state government this afternoon, and the indefinite strike action embarked upon by the union is now suspended. We commend Governor Kefas and all relevant stakeholders who intervened to ensure that normal academic activities can resume.” The ₦500 million package is aimed at settling part of the outstanding backlogs owed to staff. Dr. Mbave also urged the government to honour the terms of the agreement fully, emphasizing that consistency is critical for the long-term stability of the university and the welfare of students and staff. Academic activities are expected to resume across the TSU campus in the coming days.
