By Ayo Onikoyi Nollywood actress and filmmaker Temidayo Babatunde has said that physical beauty alone cannot guarantee success in the Nigerian film industry, stressing that talent and hard work remain the true determinants of longevity in the profession. Speaking about the realities of the industry, Babatunde noted that while appearance can attract attention, it is talent that sustains a career and earns respect among peers. “Beauty may open doors, but it is talent that keeps you in the room,” she said. “To truly succeed in Nollywood, you must have the skills and the dedication. Talent is what eventually allows you to stand among the best.” The actress explained that beauty and talent should ideally complement each other, but warned that relying solely on physical appearance could limit an actor’s growth and relevance. Babatunde also spoke about the role of social media in shaping the careers of modern actors, describing it as both beneficial and challenging. According to her, the digital space has provided actors with opportunities to showcase their craft and reach wider audiences, even though it sometimes comes with pressures and criticism. “Social media has its pros and cons, but it has helped me connect with fans and share my work with people beyond my immediate environment,” she said, adding that she appreciates the support she has received from audiences across different platforms. Beyond her career, the actress revealed that she hopes to achieve fulfillment both professionally and personally. She said her dream is to continue growing as an actress while also building a happy family life. Babatunde has been steadily establishing her presence in Nollywood, having produced seven films, including Twist of Fate, Ife Ojiji, Ife Fun Ife, Aseoluwa, Karahun (Greed) and Ipa (Force), which is scheduled for release next week. In addition, she has appeared in more than 23 films. Despite the recognition that comes with her growing profile, the actress said public perception of celebrities is sometimes exaggerated. She recalled an incident where traders in a market whispered among themselves, assuming she would arrive in a luxury vehicle simply because she was a film star. With a growing catalogue of work and clear ambitions, Babatunde continues to position herself as one of the emerging talents in Nigeria’s film industry.
