Suspected cultists kill 30-year-old rival in Bayelsa

By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa There is rising tension in Igbogene community, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, following the killing of a 30-year-old man by a suspected cult group. The deceased, identified as Ebi, popularly known as Npotor, is an indigene of Amassoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state. The incident is linked to an ongoing rivalry between the Bobos and Greenlanders groups in the area. The deceased was alleged to be a member of the rival Greenlanders group. Community sources told newsmen that the two groups have been locked in a supremacy battle. “The boy was said to have gone to Yenegwe, an area controlled by the Bobos. He was taken, tied and abandoned by the road,” a source said. Security sources confirmed that the corpse was found with hands tied. “The Igbogene Divisional Police Officer has been deployed to the area to evacuate the corpse,” a police source said. Contacted on the development, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, said he was yet to get details of the incident.
