By Egufe Yafugborhi The Spiritual Kingdom Church of Christ (SKCC), in collaboration with the Royal Family of Edidem Bassey, has offered intercessory prayers for peaceful, bloodless elections in 2027. The prayers took place on Saturday during a memorial service marking the ascension of the church’s founder at SKCC headquarters in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. Clergy, traditional leaders, and faithful from across the country attended, uniting in a call for peace and divine guidance for Nigeria’s political future. The Chief High Priest and Head of the Ecclesiastical Council, Samuel Chinda Edidem, said it is the church’s sacred duty to pray for the nation, especially as the country approaches a critical election cycle. He urged Nigerians to seek God’s intervention for a peaceful electoral process. Reflecting on the legacy of Edidem Bassey, Chinda-Edidem recalled the founder’s prayers during the Nigerian Civil War 59 years ago, which he said brought an end to the conflict without widespread bloodshed. “That covenant between our father and God is respected to this day. Therefore, we can authoritatively say Nigeria would not see war again,” he said. Chinda-Edidem expressed confidence that even if Nigeria faces future challenges, any potential separation would occur peacefully, without violence. He also cited Psalm 72:2 to underscore the importance of righteous leadership and divine protection. The memorial ceremony featured choirs from all branches of the church, reflections on Edidem Bassey’s life, goodwill messages, and performances by the children’s choir. Mother General of the Church, Caroline Adm Gabriel Edidem, highlighted the enduring spiritual guidance of Edidem Bassey, urging believers to place their trust in him. The SKCC emphasized that their prayers are meant to support national unity, stability, and a peaceful 2027 election, positioning religious leaders as moral and spiritual guides for the country.
