By Shina Abubakar, Osogbo OSOGBO — As the Osun State governorship election approaches, six federal lawmakers elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform have defected to the Accord Party, joining Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the Accord platform. The lawmakers, representing Ila, Osogbo, Ede, Ikirun, Iwo, and Irewole/Ayedaade Isokan federal constituencies, made the announcement through Clement Akanni of Ila Federal Constituency. They said the move was aimed at strengthening Accord’s position in the state. Akanni stated, “On behalf of Mahruf Adewale in Osogbo, Bamidele Salam in Ede, Soji Adetunji in Ikirun, Mudashiru Lukman in Iwo, Lanre Oladebo in Irewole/Ayedaade Isokan, all of us from today have become members of the Accord Party. We believe Governor Adeleke will win with 80%, while other parties share the remaining 20%.” Earlier, Senator Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, confirmed the Osun PDP’s endorsement of Adeleke on the Accord platform, urging party members to support him in the August 15 polls. He said, “What we are doing is to let the world know where the PDP in Osun will put our votes...Governor Adeleke has secured the Accord ticket, and we adopt him as our candidate.” Governor Adeleke thanked the PDP members for their support and called for massive votes for Accord, noting that he left the PDP due to internal crises and chose Accord to continue his administration’s developmental agenda. Speaking on behalf of the PDP, State Chairman Sunday Bisi said, “After wide consultations with elders, stakeholders, and leaders, the Osun PDP directs all structures to move en masse and give total, unalloyed support to Governor Adeleke’s re-election under Accord. From road infrastructure to healthcare transformation, your administration has proven that governance is about impact.” The development signals growing consolidation for Adeleke ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
