Singer Adokiye Kyrian shares experience of betrayal to mark International Women’s Day

By Ayo Onikoyi Nigerian singer Adokiye Kyrian has opened up about personal experiences of betrayal and hostility from people she once supported, using the occasion of International Women’s Day to reflect on resilience and forgiveness. In a message shared via a WhatsApp broadcast to a select group of her contacts, the singer spoke about the challenges she has faced over the years, including what she described as acts of wickedness and cruelty from individuals within her circle. According to her, many of those actions came from people she had previously helped or worked with, noting that some allegedly undermined her by taking business opportunities and spreading negative comments about her. Adokiye said she was aware of the alleged acts carried out against her but chose to forgive those involved. She emphasised that her faith and personal convictions helped her overcome the experiences. “I have had to deal with wickedness, cruelty and demonic intentions in the highest forms from people I supported and did good things for in life,” she said, adding that she was fully aware of the actions taken behind her back. The singer also warned that she would not tolerate a repeat of such actions, stressing that anyone associated with her name should only do so in a positive and respectful manner. Despite the grievances she expressed, Adokiye maintained that she has moved on from the past, stating that she has forgiven those involved and is focused on peace and personal growth. She concluded her message by urging people to avoid sowing hatred and negativity, while encouraging reflection and mutual respect. The singer also extended goodwill wishes to women around the world as they celebrate International Women’s Day, calling for a more supportive and positive environment for everyone.
