Salah’s PL legacy better than Ronaldo’s — Carragher

By Enitan Abdultawab Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said Mohamed Salah’s Premier League legacy surpasses that of Cristiano Ronaldo, arguing that the Egyptian’s output places him among the EPL’s greatest players. Carragher made the assertion following confirmation that Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, describing his departure as the end of an “extraordinary era” at Anfield after nearly a decade of impact. “In the pantheon of overseas attacking players to have excelled in England, only Thierry Henry eclipses Salah’s output and consistency,” Carragher wrote in his column for The Telegraph. He added, “While many will argue the merits of players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Bergkamp or Eric Cantona, none of them produced the same devastating numbers as consistently, season-after-season, as the Egyptian.” The former England international further explained why he rates Salah above Ronaldo in Premier League terms. “Ronaldo’s time at Manchester United, both initially and upon his return, was either side of his absolute, Real Madrid-peak years. Salah edges ahead of him when judging strictly on Premier League performance and impact. In an all-time Premier League XI, Salah is an automatic inclusion in the front three alongside Henry and Ronaldo,” he wrote. Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, the forward has recorded 189 goals and 92 assists — more than any other player in the league during that period. His performances have also been central to Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp, including winning the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup, and forming one of the league’s most effective attacking trios alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Over nine seasons, the forward has made more than 400 appearances for the club, maintaining a remarkable level of availability and performance. With his impending exit, Salah is set to leave as one of Liverpool’s highest scorers and most influential players, cementing a legacy that Carragher believes stands among the finest ever seen in the Premier League
