By Steve Oko The Commander of the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Dikko, has called on journalists to assist the military in identifying and reporting personnel engaged in unprofessional conduct. He made the appeal while addressing journalists at the command headquarters, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks, stressing that any soldier found violating military standards would face disciplinary action. The brigade commander specifically urged the media to report instances of soldiers undertaking unauthorised duties, including escorting individuals or performing personal services for public figures. He emphasised that the Nigerian Army places a high premium on discipline and professionalism, warning officers and soldiers to avoid misconduct. According to him, the command will not hesitate to sanction offenders. Brig. Gen. Dikko, who assumed office on February 2, 2026, pledged to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to enhance the protection of lives and property. While noting that no institution is without challenges, he said the Army can improve through constructive feedback from the public and the media, adding that the command welcomes credible information that could aid its operations. He described journalists as a vital link between the military and the public and called for sustained cooperation to build trust and improve security outcomes. Dikko added that maintaining a positive working relationship with the media remains essential in addressing security challenges and fostering public confidence.
