By Udeme Akpan, Energy Editor Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited pulled off the biggest divestment transaction by an indigenous company in Nigeria’s history last March when it completed the acquisition of Shell’s share in the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Joint Venture (JV) and retained Operatorship of the largest upstream company in the country. Also, Renaissance boosted production by 40% in six months—an unprecedented occurrence in Nigeria unless there’s a new production facility. The Nigerian company attained international safety affiliation in record time with the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP), a precocious feat of operating Nigeria’s largest upstream JV. It is the operator of Nigeria’s largest upstream Joint Venture (JV)—in other words, it is the only Nigerian company trusted enough to operate JV assets with the International Oil Companies (IOCs)’ interests (TotalEnergies, Agip Energy & Natural Resources). Renaissance remains the leading Nigerian energy company that has made a bold step of taking Nigeria to the centre stage of the African energy landscape with a continental brand activation at the prestigious African Energy Week in Cape Town, South Africa. Also, Renaissance is the Nigerian independent with the largest upstream footprint. As a result of its various accomplishments, the company has won chains of awards, including from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB); Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE); Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), and BusinessDay—all in less than 10 months. Following Renaissance’s consistent improvement in production, the company also received commendations from critical stakeholders, including NNPC Limited and federal ministers. The company is upfront about its ambition: to be Africa’s foremost energy company, enabling energy security and industrialisation through sustainable practices. These and other reasons underscore the emergence of Renaissance as our Company of the Year 2025.
