By James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta An aspirant for the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr. Olalekan Jiboku, has distributed food items to over 150 residents across Abeokuta South local government area, as part of activities marking the ongoing Ramadan and Lenten seasons. The outreach, which took place at the weekend in several communities within the council area, saw beneficiaries receive food packages aimed at supporting families observing the Muslim fasting period and the Christian season of Lent. Speaking with journalists during the exercise, Jiboku described the initiative as part of his commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the community, while promoting unity among residents regardless of religious background. He explained that the coincidence of the Ramadan and Lenten seasons offered an opportunity to demonstrate compassion and solidarity with people facing economic hardship. According to him, widows, elderly residents, artisans and low-income families were deliberately targeted in the distribution in order to ease the burden of rising living costs during the fasting period. “This season reminds us of the importance of sacrifice, love and compassion. It is a time when we must show kindness to one another and extend support to those in need within our communities,” Jiboku said. He also urged residents to take advantage of the sacred period to reflect on the nation’s challenges and pray for peace, unity and progress in Nigeria. “We must continue to pray for our dear country. With collective prayers and commitment to good values, Nigeria will overcome its challenges and move toward greater prosperity,” he added. Some of the beneficiaries who received the food items expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely support amid prevailing economic difficulties. They commended the aspirant for remembering ordinary residents during the religious season, noting that the assistance would go a long way in supporting their households. Community leaders also lauded the initiative, stating that acts of generosity during Ramadan and Lent help strengthen communal bonds and encourage others to support humanitarian efforts within Abeokuta South and Ogun State at large.
