By Shina Abubakar, Osogbo OSOGBO — Homes and businesses in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, suffered significant damage following a heavy rainstorm late on Saturday night. The storm destroyed rooftops on several buildings, including a structure within the Technical College, Osogbo. Billboards were uprooted and toppled onto shops, while parked and moving vehicles were also affected. A white garment church in the Ijetu area had its roof blown off, and multiple buildings across Ogo-Oluwa, Isale-Osun, and other communities sustained damage. Sympathising with the affected residents, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, described the storm’s impact as devastating. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor said: “I sincerely sympathise with the victims of the heavy rainstorms occasioned by the devastating downpour on Saturday, 28th March 2026, in Osogbo and surrounding communities. I feel deeply touched and alarmed by this incident. My administration will take all possible steps, through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA), to offset the losses incurred by the victims. “I have also directed the Ministry of Works to promptly clear the roads to prevent further accidents,” he added.
