By Chimaobi Nwaiwu NNEWI — The Primate of All Nigeria, His Grace Archbishop Henry C. Ndukuba, has praised the efforts of the Federal Government and security agencies in tackling insecurity in Nigeria, while calling for sustained and more effective strategies to address persistent banditry and terrorism. Archbishop Ndukuba made the remarks during his presidential address at the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion Standing Committee Meeting at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Osumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State. The five-day meeting, themed “Service to the Lord: Imperative for the Family under God,” was attended by nearly all Anglican Bishops from across the country. The Primate commended the political will demonstrated in combating insecurity but warned that Nigeria must continually review and strengthen its strategies to overcome the challenges. He noted that recent attacks, kidnappings, and the resurgence of insurgency indicate that the twin problems of banditry and terrorism remain deeply entrenched. He highlighted the impact of violent attacks on communities and citizens, including abductions of worshippers, children, and school personnel, describing the human and societal costs as severe. Archbishop Ndukuba also called for international support, noting that recent interventions by external actors, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, had been helpful but were insufficient for long-term solutions. “The proactive attack by the military and local vigilantes on terror hideouts must be sustained. Equipping the Nigerian Armed Forces remains vital to winning this war,” the Primate said. He further addressed corruption, drug trafficking, and other social vices as factors undermining national security and development, urging both government and citizens to tackle these issues decisively. The meeting also recommended that Nigeria improve intelligence gathering, secure its borders, hold sponsors of terrorism accountable, and strengthen collaboration between security agencies and local communities. In his welcome address, Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor, host of the meeting, emphasized the importance of godly family leadership and spiritual grounding in addressing societal challenges. Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, who was present, highlighted the state’s security gains, including the dismantling of 62 criminal camps, and called for continued cooperation between the church and government to enhance public safety. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, praised the Diocese of Amichi for its contributions to education and development, while stressing that the mismanagement of public resources by politicians remains a major challenge for Nigeria.
