Pound to Naira exchange rate today, March 16, 2026

The British Pound has maintained a strong position against the Nigerian Naira in the early trading hours of Monday, March 16, 2026. Following the trend of the US Dollar, the Pound Sterling is experiencing a period of relative consolidation as the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) reacts to the latest liquidity measures from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Data from the official NFEM window shows the British Pound trading at an average of 1,838.89 per pound. Throughout the morning session, the rate has seen minor fluctuations, peaking at 1,841.17 before settling back toward the 1,839 mark. This official rate reflects a steady environment compared to the volatile swings seen in late February, as improved reserve levels help dampen sudden spikes in demand. In the parallel market, the exchange rate remains slightly higher due to the immediate accessibility of cash for retail buyers. Bureau De Change operators in major hubs such as Broad Street, Lagos, and Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, are currently quoting the Pound at 1,855 for buying and 1,870 for selling. While a gap persists between the official and black market rates, it has narrowed significantly from the wide spreads recorded earlier in the year. Financial analysts suggest that the current strength of the Pound is supported by stable interest rates in the UK, which continue to attract foreign interest. Domestically, the Naira’s performance is being closely watched as the market anticipates the outcome of the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting. For now, the “fair value” for the Pound in the Nigerian market appears to have found a temporary floor between the 1,830 and 1,870 range across both segments. For travelers and importers, the closing rates from the Central Bank of Nigeria as of the last update provided a reference point of approximately 1,815.12, though real-time market participants should expect to pay the current premium of roughly 24 to 50 Naira depending on the source of liquidity.
