....Arraign Suspects in Separate Murder Case By Vincent Ujumadu AWKA — Operatives of the Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have exhumed the corpse of a 52-year-old man, Chinedu Ezeani, allegedly murdered and buried by his cousin, Chukwudalu Ezeani, in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state. The incident, which occurred about eight months ago, was initially reported as a missing person case until the arrest of the 35-year-old suspect led to a breakthrough in the investigation. Police said the suspect allegedly committed the crime on August 1, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m. at his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, where he reportedly killed the victim and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound. According to the Anambra State Police Command, the suspect confessed during interrogation and subsequently led detectives to the burial site, where the remains were exhumed. The Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the remains have been deposited in a mortuary for forensic examination, adding that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. “The case, which was initially reported as a missing person incident at Amichi Police Station, was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” Ikenga said. In a related development, the police have arraigned a 21-year-old apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, for allegedly murdering his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, in Fegge, Onitsha. Ikenga disclosed that the suspect was arraigned before the High Court in Onitsha on March 18 alongside another suspect, Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, also aged 21, who allegedly aided the crime. According to police, Anieke allegedly used a pestle to attack his employer, leading to his death, and was also linked to an assault on the victim’s sister on the same night. The police further revealed that over N8 million belonging to the deceased was fraudulently transferred through a bank account reportedly provided by the second suspect, out of which N6 million has been recovered and tendered as evidence in court. Both suspects have been remanded at a correctional facility pending further proceedings. The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and warned against criminal activities, stressing that offenders would always be brought to book.
