The Police Command in Nasarawa State has detained two suspected vehicle thieves and recovered a stolen truck cabin in the Mararaba area of the state. SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Lafia. Nansel said that the arrest followed directives by the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, to intensify community-based policing and strengthen crime-fighting strategies. He said that operatives attached to Mararaba Division apprehended Abdulrahaman Danjuma, 31, and Saadu Umar, 34, at the Tudun Wada area of Karu Local Government Area on Feb. 28, at about 10:30 a.m. He said the suspects, residents of Mararaba and FCT Abuja, respectively, were arrested based on credible intelligence. “During the operation, an unregistered white DAF truck cabin suspected to have been stolen was recovered,” he said. According to him, a search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of two number plates with registration numbers DGA 118 XA and USS 168 XA. Nansel said the suspects confessed during interrogation to stealing the trailer from Kogi State and driving it to Mararaba. He added that they also admitted selling the trailer body to an unidentified buyer through a proxy still at large for N4 million. The spokesperson said that the commissioner had commended the operatives for their professionalism and directed that the suspects and exhibits be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. He said that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the crime. Vanguard News
