Police arrest suspect for inciting public disorder in Kano – CP

By Bashir Bello Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, said the command has arrested a suspect allegedly circulating audio and video clips for inciting public disorder and creating tension and fear in the state. The Police Commissioner, who made this known while addressing newsmen at the police headquarters in Bompai, vowed that the suspect, who is currently under interrogation, will be made to face the full weight of the law at the end of investigation. CP Bakori urged residents to disregard the rumour of protest circulating in the state, warning content creators to immediately cease from creation and dissemination of such inflammatory content. According to him, “The Kano State Police Command has intercepted reports of circulating audio and video clips containing statement capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents. “The Command, in a sting operation, swiftly arrested the suspect who is currently being interrogated. “We wish to state that the Command views the inflammatory statement seriously and that the suspect will be made to face the full weight of the law at the end of investigation. “The Command strongly condemns the creation and dissemination of such inflammatory content and warns individuals involved to cease immediately. As any person found spreading false information will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted accordingly. The Command will not tolerate any form of hate speech, incitement, or violence. “Meanwhile, adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any breach of peace and ensure the safety of all residents. The Command is working closely with other security agencies to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any incident, and assures the public that there is no cause for alarm. “Residents are urged to remain calm and vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the emergency numbers. “I, therefore, appeal to our community and religious leaders, traditional rulers, and all stakeholders to promote peace and understanding among residents,” the Police Commissioner Bakori stated. Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the state government is doing everything possible to ensure that the situation is brought under control. He said the state government is working closely with all security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property of the residents.
