Plot to destroy PDP before 2027 polls’ll fail – Bode George

By Dapo Akinrefon LAGOS — Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has warned that attempts to weaken the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections will fail. Speaking on Sunday in Lagos, George also called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, respects constitutional norms. George said the PDP remains calm and committed to constitutionalism, despite what he described as “unconstitutional interference” by political actors. “The APC, the Presidency, and Wike are making a mistake. They misinterpret PDP’s approach to normalcy and constitutionalism as weakness,” George said. The PDP leader emphasized that Wike is no longer a member of the party. “He was expelled during our convention in Ibadan last November, along with others. Their expulsion still stands. It makes no sense for him to claim he is leading any faction of PDP while using Federal Government agents to intimidate Nigerians,” George stated. George urged political elders to advise President Tinubu to call Wike to order, warning of potential consequences for democratic governance. “This is Tinubu’s administration, not Wike’s. Any crisis will have national and regional implications. Nigerians are watching closely,” he said. He also expressed concern about the perception of power concentration and political manipulation. “Wike’s conduct is becoming an embarrassment. Nigeria is bigger than any individual or group, and the will of the people must be respected,” George added. The former PDP official concluded by stressing the importance of upholding democratic principles and the rule of law: “No one, no matter how influential, should be allowed to undermine the will of Nigerians. It is time for the President to call these actors to order.”
