Plateau Police nab 21 cult suspects, arrest TikTok fake news peddler

By Golok Nanmwa Jos – Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested 21 suspected members of the notorious Sara-Suka cult syndicate, which has been terrorizing innocent residents in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, alongside a teenage social media influencer accused of spreading fake news capable of inciting chaos in the state. The arrests form part of intensified security operations directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, to curb crime and ensure peaceful celebrations during the ongoing Ramadan period. The command, in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, on Saturday disclosed that the suspects were rounded up at various locations across the metropolis following heightened patrol and raid operations ordered by the CP and executed by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Team leaders. The 21 suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will soon face prosecution in court upon conclusion of inquiries. In a related development, the police arrested the originator of a viral TikTok video that contained inciting comments aimed at causing public disorder in the state. The suspect, Mohammed Shuaibu Adam, 16, owner of the TikTok handle @townboii1, and his accomplice, Auwal Ilyas Abdullahi, 19, both residents of Rikkos, Jos, were apprehended by operatives of the command. During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed to the offence. They will be charged to court once investigations are completed. CP Ewah commended the gallant efforts of officers who worked tirelessly to effect the arrests and urged them to sustain the momentum in flushing out criminal elements from the state. He assured residents of Plateau State of the command’s unwavering commitment to their safety, calling on them to remain calm, go about their lawful activities without fear, and report suspicious movements promptly.
