By Golok Nanmwa JOS – The Plateau State Government has been urged to release a white paper on recent community killings and community attacks in the state. The call was made on Sunday by the Plateau State Executive Peace Roundtable under the auspices of the Delimi Prosper Project in a communiqué made available to newsmen at the end of it’s meeting held in Jos. It could be recalled that in recent weeks, communities in Plateau State have come under serious attacks, resulting in the loss of lives and destruction of properties. The communiqué which was signed by Nanmak Bali, stated that the roundtable discussed youth perspectives and lived experiences on non-kinetic and preventive approaches to resource-related conflicts and resolved that the government should release and implement a white paper on the attacks. The communiqué further reads that “After extensive deliberations, it was resolved as follows ,We have concerns about the use of the digital space, and the following solutions were proposed. White papers need to be released and implemented by the government. Inclusiveness is needed in the conversations and solutions.” The meeting, attended by top government functionaries including the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Samuel Jatau, and the Director-General of the Plateau Peace Building Agency, Julie Sanda, also recommended community policing, enlightenment, and dialogue to maximise the positive potential of digital platforms. Other recommendations included engaging regulatory agencies to address breaches and creating galleries and museums to tell community stories using digital platforms. “There is a need to engage regulatory agencies to enforce compliance. The narratives can be changed by creating galleries and museums to tell stories through the digital space. “Community policing is required for a more secure state. Enlightenment and dialogue are needed to maximise the positive potential of digital platforms the communique further reads .
