Golok Nanmwa The Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board has reassured the public that the first batch of 294 Christian pilgrims from the state currently in Israel are safe and secure, despite escalating regional tensions in the Middle East involving military actions by Israel and the United States against Iran. In a press release issued on Sunday, the Board emphasised that the welfare and protection of the pilgrims remain its top priority, with comprehensive safety measures in place through close collaboration with the Israeli authorities, the Nigerian Embassy, and other security agencies. Rev. Yusufu Wanson Bagu, Executive Secretary of the Board, in a statement, stated that the pilgrims are engaged in their spiritual activities within designated safe zones and under continuous surveillance. “Our delegates in Israel are monitoring the situation closely and providing real-time updates,” the release noted. The Board further disclosed that the pilgrims have since moved to Jordan in preparation for their return to Nigeria, with a robust communication system enabling constant contact with families back home for support and reassurance. The first batch is expected to return home soon, as arrangements with the airline are being finalised for a smooth journey. To support the pilgrims spiritually and emotionally amid the uncertainties, the Board is facilitating worship gatherings, prayer sessions, and counselling. At the same time, medical personnel remain on standby to address any health needs. The statement expressed gratitude for Nigerians’ prayers and support, and urged the public to stay calm and trust in established safety protocols. “The Board remains committed to transparency and will provide updates as necessary. We call on everyone to join in prayers for peace in the region and the safe return of our pilgrims,” Rev. Bagu added. Our correspondent reports that the assurance comes amid heightened concerns among families and communities about the pilgrims’ safety following recent developments in the region. Vanguard News
