Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State to remain united and committed as the party enters what he described as a critical phase in its rebuilding process ahead of future elections. Saraki gave the charge on Saturday during a pre-national convention dinner held at his Abuja residence, which brought together Kwara delegates, aspirants, state executives, and other key stakeholders ahead of the party’s convention. Describing the convention as a defining moment for the PDP’s fortunes in Kwara State, the former governor said the exercise would determine the party’s readiness to present a credible alternative platform in the state. “Alhamdulillah that we are at this point. This convention is very important to us not just as a party, but as a state seeking a credible platform for contest,” he said. Saraki characterised the convention as the “last leg” in the process of repositioning the PDP to challenge for power in Kwara, urging aspirants to approach the anticipated primary elections with maturity and a collective spirit. “What is important is PDP winning and salvaging our state. This is not a do-or-die affair but a collective mission,” he stated, warning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s electoral prospects. The former Senate President also called for immediate grassroots mobilisation after the convention, urging party leaders to deepen engagement with wards, local government structures, youth groups, and party directorates. Extending an olive branch to members of opposing political camps, Saraki assured them of the party’s openness and inclusivity. “Our doors are open. Many are suffering in silence; we can accommodate as many as possible for the sake of the state,” he said. While criticising the current administration in Kwara State as a “bad narrative” for the state, Saraki expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim power and reposition Kwara for growth and prosperity. “PDP shall resecure the state and lead it to prosperity,” he declared, adding that “PDP is a family affair.” The PDP in Kwara State has been working to rebuild its political relevance since losing power in the 2019 general elections, which ushered in the ruling All Progressives Congress.
