Osun Assembly Speaker, 24 lawmakers quit PDP for Accord

By Shina Abubakar, Osogbo OSOGBO — The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Adewale Egbedun, has led 24 other lawmakers elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform to join the Accord Party. The decision was taken on Friday following a meeting at the Assembly complex, sources said. The move is seen as an effort to strengthen Governor Ademola Adeleke’s position within the Accord Party ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Governor Adeleke had joined the Accord Party in December 2025, while the lawmakers remained in the PDP until Friday. When contacted, the Speaker’s spokesperson, Olamide Tiamiyu, confirmed that all 25 PDP lawmakers have now defected to Accord, leaving the APC lawmakers as the sole opposition in the Assembly.
