Osun Assembly speaker, 24 lawmakers leave PDP for Accord

By Shina Abubakar, Osogbo The Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, has led 24 other lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the Accord Party. The decision was reportedly taken on Friday following a meeting at the Assembly complex. Sources said the move is aimed at consolidating Governor Ademola Adeleke’s hold on the Accord Party ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15 this year. Governor Adeleke had joined the Accord Party in December last year, while the lawmakers remained in the PDP until their decision on Friday. Confirming the development, the Speaker’s spokesperson, Olamide Tiamiyu, stated that all 25 PDP-elected lawmakers have now joined Accord, leaving the sole APC lawmakers in the Assembly as the opposition.
