One dead, three injured as truck crushes tricycle in Epe, Lagos

By Olasunkanmi Akoni EPE — At least one person died and three others sustained critical injuries on Sunday after a truck carrying yams collided with a commercial tricycle at Aiyetoro Junction, near the Traffic Light corridor in Epe, Lagos. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred when the truck, with registration number AGL 764 XB, coming from Ijebu-Ode, attempted a U-turn into Eleko at high speed, lost control, and rammed into a stationary tricycle bearing registration number SMK 127 QR. The force of the collision resulted in one fatality and severe injuries to three occupants of the tricycle. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, and military personnel, responded promptly. They extricated the injured victims and cleared debris from the road. The FRSC conveyed the deceased and the injured to General Hospital, Epe, for medical attention and treatment. Security agencies maintained order and facilitated the restoration of traffic flow during the rescue operation. Reacting to the crash, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, called for a thorough investigation by relevant authorities to determine the cause of the accident and ensure that those responsible face appropriate legal action.
