...Applaud Urban Renewal Initiatives By Dayo Johnson Akure Traditional rulers in Ondo State have commended Governor Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his “bold and transformative” urban renewal projects in Akure, the state capital. Speaking on behalf of the state’s council of traditional rulers, 130 crowned Obas congratulated the governor on a “purposeful and development-driven” first year in office. Their chairman, the Malokun of Atijere Kingdom, Oba Samuel Olumide Adeoye, highlighted that visible improvements in infrastructure and environmental management have begun reshaping the city’s urban landscape. The monarchs praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s sustained investment in road rehabilitation, city beautification, drainage construction, and agricultural development, noting that township roads previously plagued by disrepair have been upgraded, easing transportation challenges and boosting commercial activity. According to the Obas, the urban renewal agenda is restoring public confidence in governance while stimulating economic growth. Improved access for traders and commuters, enhanced aesthetics in major towns, and growing investor interest were cited as indicators of the state’s modernization trajectory. The traditional rulers also lauded the governor’s consultative leadership style and engagement with stakeholders, including traditional institutions, describing it as a hallmark of inclusive governance. They emphasized that strengthening the welfare of Obas not only preserves culture but also enhances grassroots peace and supports community development. “By empowering custodians of tradition, the administration reinforces collaboration between government and royal institutions, contributing significantly to stability, unity, and sustainable progress across the state,” the Obas said. While celebrating achievements, the monarchs urged the governor to sustain momentum and extend infrastructural development to rural and riverine communities, stressing that balanced growth is key to consolidating the administration’s legacy. They concluded that “Governor Aiyedatiwa’s first anniversary marks a significant milestone in Ondo State’s political and developmental trajectory, with royal endorsement signaling that the urban renewal drive is poised to continue shaping a new narrative of growth and progress.”
