By John Alechenu, Abuja The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, has called for greater inclusion of women in governance, saying Nigeria must harness the leadership and talents of women to achieve its full potential. Usman made the call while extending warm wishes to women across the world, particularly Nigerian women, in celebration of International Women’s Day. In a message she signed in Abuja on Sunday, the former senator urged stronger legislative and policy measures to enhance women’s participation in governance and decision-making. She reiterated her long-standing advocacy for women’s rights, stressing that Nigeria needs the voices, talents and leadership of women in national development. According to her, “On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I extend my warmest wishes to women across the world, especially our resilient and hardworking Nigerian women. “As a longstanding advocate for the rights and advancement of women, I use this occasion to once again call for stronger legislative and policy measures that will deepen women’s inclusion in governance and decision-making. “This was a cause I pursued with great passion and commitment during my time in the Nigerian Senate. “Nigeria can only reach its full potential when the voices, talents and leadership of women are fully represented and respected in every sphere of national life.”
