Nigeria has been ranked as the African country with the strongest naval fleet in 2026, according to the latest global military strength report. The country leads the continent with a total of 152 naval vessels, placing it 22nd globally. The ranking reflects Nigeria’s growing emphasis on maritime security, particularly in combating piracy and protecting critical shipping routes in the Gulf of Guinea. Egypt follows closely in second place in Africa with 149 naval assets, earning a 23rd global ranking, while Algeria ranks third on the continent with 111 vessels, placing it 34th worldwide. Morocco occupies fourth position with 100 naval vessels and a 38th global rank, while South Africa rounds out the top five with 63 assets, ranking 52nd globally. Other African countries in the top 10 include Tunisia, which ranks sixth with 37 vessels (61st globally), followed by Mozambique in seventh place with 36 vessels (62nd globally).
