By John Alechenu The Senator Esther Nenadi-Usman-led national caretaker committee of Labour Party, LP, has resumed office at the party’s national secretariat in Utako, Abuja, following a court ruling affirming its leadership. This followed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officially recognising the new leadership and uploading the Interim national leadership members’ details on its portal. Usman led other members of the Interim National Working Committee, INWC, of the party, to take physical possession of the building which was hitherto occupied by the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee, yesterday. In her first acts in office, Nenadi-Usman took a physical tour of the building along with her team and members of the press and, thereafter, she received the report of a committee earlier set up to oversee party membership registration. In her brief remarks, she said: “I want to particularly thank God Almighty for a day like this. This is the day that the Lord has made; we shall rejoice and be glad in it. “It’s a very important day because this is the first event we are having in our national secretariat since the Supreme Court judgment on April 4 last year. “What we thought was going to be smooth sailing took a long time, but with patience, today we are here. We want to thank God for it and promise all party faithful across the country that we will do the right thing at the right time. All we want is to develop this party.” The party’s interim national chairman equally praised Abia State Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, and his team, for overseeing the membership registration drive since the committee was inaugurated in December last year. She said: ‘’They’ve been doing a lot of work, and we thought it would be nice to meet today in front of the press to let the whole country know what we have done so far.” She assured party supporters and Nigerians in general of her renewed commitment to rebuilding the Labour Party in order to position it to take its pride of place as Nigeria’s party of choice. “For those who have been very supportive and encouraged us, we want to let you know that we will not let you down,” Senator Nenadi-Usman said. Recall that the Nenadi-Usman-led faction had had a lengthy legal battle with the Abure-led NWC which went up to the Supreme Court. It, however, took a decision of a Federal High Court relying on the Supreme Court judgement and the decision of INEC to recognise her for Abure to vacate the secretariat.
