By Ishola Balogun ABUJA – Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), has resigned as head of the commission. The news has sent shockwaves through the Hajj industry, with many stakeholders citing the move as a welcome relief. The media department of the commission is yet to react to the resignation of Prof Usman but Vanguard gathered that the embattled chairman was left with no choice but to step down following a scathing petition filed by his own board members, who expressed deep concerns over his leadership style high handedness and lack of regard for due process. The petition, which was forwarded to the Presidency, allegedly highlighted several red flags in the management of Nigeria’s Hajj operations. The resignation is expected to pave the way for reforms aimed at restoring confidence in NAHCON and ensuring a smoother Hajj experience for Nigerian pilgrims.
