By John Alechenu The Federal Government and contractors handling section one of the N777billion Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway, Infouest Nigeria Limited, have reiterated their commitment to the April 2026 completion date. The project, which was initially awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, was terminated owing to a cost and completion date dispute and re-awarded to Infouest under a fresh contract involving the use of reinforced concrete pavement instead of asphalt. A representative of the company, Chukuma Kalu, who spoke to reporters during a media tour of the Abuja section of the project, expressed the company’s willingness and commitment to meeting the April deadline for the project delivery. According to him, the company works day and night in order to complete the outstanding sections of the project which was awarded in two lots. Kalu said, “The project includes a 40.5-kilometre dual CRCP stretch, totalling 81 kilometres, a 17.3-kilometre asphalt section linking the Kano-Zaria road, and a 6.63-kilometre dual asphalt wearing course overlay in Kano State. “To date, we have completed the 6.63 dual asphalt road in Kano, the road to Kano Airport, which has been marked with street lights. “The 17.3 kilometres asphalt road leading to Kano-Zaria road is about 80 per cent complete.” He further explained that out of the 81 kilometres of CRCP, 60 kilometres have been completed, leaving 21 kilometres to be delivered before the end of April. “We work during the day and night to make sure we meet our targets of completing 81 kilometres by the end of April,” Kalu added. Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed Ahmed, who also spoke during the visit, said the project was dear to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi. He said, “This project, like similar projects nationwide, is central to the President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda which the Minister of Works Engr. David Umahi is also committed to delivering on the issue of road infrastructure.” The inspection team also paid similar visits to the N73.8bn Maraba-Keffi Road project being handled by China Harbour Engineering Construction Company, with a June 2026 completion date.
