...Calls for Genuine Middle East Peace Process King Mohammed VI has expressed support for efforts to reconstruct Gaza and called for the launch of a genuine peace process in the Middle East. In a statement issued on Thursday, Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates confirmed the monarch’s position. According to the statement, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita represented the King at the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-led Board of Peace held in Washington, D.C. Speaking at the meeting, Bourita noted that President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan helped secure a ceasefire, end hostilities, save lives, and outline a pragmatic, forward-looking framework for reconstruction. He stated that, on the High Instructions of the King—who also serves as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee—Morocco is committed to supporting the Board of Peace’s efforts in Gaza, particularly in the areas of security, healthcare, and the promotion of tolerance and coexistence. Bourita also emphasized the need to fulfill the conditions of Phase II of the peace plan to ensure the success of ongoing efforts, calling for the preservation of stability in the West Bank and the safeguarding of Palestinian ownership through their legitimate institutions. He further stressed that the stabilization and reconstruction of Gaza could pave the way for a genuine peace process based on a two-state solution. The inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace was chaired by Trump and attended by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, alongside heads of state, government officials, and foreign ministers from nearly 50 countries. Earlier in the year, the Moroccan monarch accepted an invitation from Trump to become a founding member of the Board of Peace—an initiative aimed at advancing peace efforts in the Middle East and promoting new approaches to conflict resolution worldwide. The Board is reserved for a select group of internationally recognized leaders committed to fostering a secure and prosperous future for coming generations. Mohammed VI also chairs the Al-Quds Committee, a standing body of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation dedicated to protecting Jerusalem and preserving its religious and cultural heritage amid the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
