By Mathew Johnson The royal family of Ojomu in Ajiran, Lagos State, has initiated measures to address alleged illegal and unauthorised sales of family land within the community. In a statement issued by the Oba of Ajiran, Tijani Adetunji Akinloye, and the Balogun of the land, Yekini Olawale Bakare, the royal family cautioned the public against purchasing land from individuals who lack recognised authority to transact on behalf of the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family. The statement affirmed that Ajiran land, described in plan No. CT/55/55 of 5/5/55, belongs to the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family and that its ownership has been upheld by court judgments and statutory documents. The royal family also acknowledged ongoing police investigations into the killings of Prince Sherrif Isola Salami in April 2023 and Prince Ademola Akinloye in August 2024, both of which occurred within the Ojomu community. The family said it is cooperating with law enforcement to ensure justice and improve safety in the area. In addition, the statement raised concerns about alleged unauthorised land transactions and document forgery, noting that legitimate transactions involving Ojomu family land are conducted using designated documentation with security features. The public was advised to verify the authenticity of any land transaction with the recognised representatives of the family. The family further disassociated itself from groups and individuals claiming authority to sell Ojomu land without proper mandate and urged prospective buyers to exercise due diligence before entering into land agreements. It also advised verified purchasers to take possession of their plots, noting that past efforts to relocate affected buyers may no longer be feasible due to limited land availability. The royal family reiterated its commitment to pursuing lawful processes in addressing both security concerns and land-related disputes, while reminding residents that existing laws in Lagos State prohibit land grabbing and related offences.
