By Enitan Abdultawab Nigerian actor Kunle Remi has questioned the award presentation process at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), suggesting that it does not match the standard seen at major international ceremonies. The actor made the comment on Monday while reacting to a video from the 2026 Oscars showing Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan receiving his Best Actor trophy. In the clip shared on his Instagram story, Jordan’s award was engraved with his name immediately after his win. Reacting to the moment, Remi compared the process with what he implied happens at the AMVCA, writing: “So they engrave your name after you win! Right there. Take it home! If na AMVCA, all of you will share one for the night then come back and collect it at the next award.” His remarks sparked discussion online, although winners at the AMVCA typically receive their plaques during the ceremony unless they are not present to collect them. Some observers suggested the actor may have been referring to a different awards event. At the 2025 Headies Awards, singer Shallipopi experienced an awkward moment when he won the Best Rap Single category but reportedly received only a handshake on stage without a plaque. This is not the first time Remi has publicly criticised the AMVCA. In 2023, he expressed disappointment after not receiving a nomination despite his performance as Saro in the film Anikulapo. But the movie secured 16 nominations at the ceremony.
