By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (ABMF) has expressed deep sympathy to the Government and people of Kano State following the tragic fire at Singer Market, which reportedly claimed lives and destroyed goods and property worth billions of naira. In a statement signed by its Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Gambo Umar, the foundation said it shares in the grief of families who lost loved ones, as well as traders whose means of livelihood were devastated by the inferno. “The Foundation expresses its deepest sympathy to the Government and people of Kano State following the tragic fire at Singer Market, which claimed lives and destroyed properties and goods worth billions of naira,” the statement read. ABMF commended the swift response and leadership demonstrated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as the efforts of emergency responders who worked under challenging conditions to contain the situation. While extending its condolences, the foundation stressed the need for strengthened preventive and emergency measures across major markets to avert future occurrences. It called for regular safety inspections, installation of functional firefighting and fire-detection systems, establishment of rapid-response protocols, and redesign of market layouts to ensure unobstructed access for emergency services. According to the foundation, such proactive steps are critical to minimising risks and protecting lives and investments in commercial hubs. ABMF also offered prayers for comfort for bereaved families, speedy recovery for those injured or affected, and the full restoration of livelihoods for impacted traders. “The Foundation remains in prayers and steadfast solidarity with the Government and people of Kano State during this difficult time,” the statement added.
