Kano Commissioner for Water Resources resigns

By Bashir Bello KANO — The Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has officially resigned from the State Executive Council. Governor Abba Yusuf has accepted the resignation, which was formally submitted on March 2, 2026, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature. In the statement, the Governor expressed appreciation for Doguwa’s “commitment, loyalty, and dedicated service” to the people and government of Kano State. He highlighted Doguwa’s previous tenure as Commissioner for Education, noting his role in advancing educational policies, including the declaration of a state of emergency on education. During his one-year tenure at the Ministry of Water Resources, Doguwa oversaw rehabilitation of water facilities and expansion of potable water supply to several communities across the state. Governor Yusuf said his leadership strengthened institutional capacity and improved service delivery in line with the administration’s vision of sustainable water access. Describing Doguwa as a disciplined and hardworking public servant, the Governor wished him continued success and assured that the state government would build on the progress achieved in the water sector. Pending the appointment of a substantive replacement, Governor Yusuf has directed the Commissioner for Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to supervise the Ministry of Water Resources. Umar Doguwa previously served as Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) before joining the state administration.
