Kano State House of Assembly said it adopted over 700 motions and passed 15 bills between January and December 2025 as part of efforts to strengthen institutions and improve the welfare of residents. Speaker Jibril Falgore, while reviewing the assembly’s activities for the 2025 legislative year, said the 10th assembly, comprising 40 members, remained proactive in fulfilling its constitutional duties of lawmaking, representation and oversight. He said that the house’s leadership, including the Deputy Speaker, Majority and Minority Leaders, Chief Whips and the Clerk, worked in synergy to ensure effective legislative coordination and administration. “Key legislations passed during the year included the Kano State Geographical Information System Bill, Kano State Centre for Disease Control Bill, Kano State Electricity Bill, Kano State Security Bill. “Others included the Kano State Social Protection Bill, Kano State Forensic Laboratory Bill, Kano State Neighbourhood Security Corps Law 2025, Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency Bill and Motor Vehicle Administration Bill,” he explained. Falgore said the assembly deliberated on several motions of urgent public importance, including interventions in insecurity in Tsanyawa and Bagwai local government areas. According to him, resolutions were also adopted on the rehabilitation of rural roads, the upgrading of primary healthcare centres, the improvement of the Takai NYSC Clinic, and a review of the 2025 Nigeria Customs Service recruitment exercise. He added that standing committees conducted extensive oversight visits to ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure transparency and the effective implementation of the 2025 budget. On infrastructure, the speaker said the renovation of the assembly Complex, initiated with support from Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, had reached over 75 per cent completion and was expected to be inaugurated in early 2026. Falgore said that the assembly also held a legislative retreat on constitutional review and effective oversight of MDAs, while development partners engaged lawmakers on maternal mortality reduction. “During the year, the house screened two commissioner nominees and approved a supplementary budget of N 215.3 billion,” he said. He, however, added that the year was marked by the deaths of two lawmakers, Aminu Sa’adu-Ungogo and Alhaji Sarki Daneji. The speaker said the assembly also extended condolences to their families, Constituencies, and the people of Kano State. Vanguard News
