By Bashir Bello, Kano The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has recovered official government vehicles from former commissioners who allegedly failed to return them after resigning from Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration. The former commissioners, who were loyalists of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had resigned following Governor Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). PCACC Chairman Saidu Yahaya, who led the recovery exercise, stated that five vehicles—one from each former commissioner—were retrieved. Of these, two were official government vehicles while the remaining three were not. The commission intends to investigate whether the official vehicles were sold or determine their current status. “Five commissioners recently resigned their appointments from this government. Official vehicles were attached to them and they were advised to return them, but they ignored our directives. We followed due process and obtained court approval to recover the vehicles,” Yahaya said. He added, “So far, we have collected five vehicles from the five commissioners. Out of these, two are official vehicles and three others are not. The official vehicles were allegedly sold to purchase these ones. We will investigate to determine whether the official vehicles were sold to procure these vehicles or ascertain their status.” Yahaya noted that prior to the recovery, both the government and the commission had written to the former commissioners requesting the return of the vehicles, but the letters were ignored. The vehicles were recovered from the following former commissioners: AVM Ibrahim Umar, former Commissioner of Internal Security and Special Duties Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Commissioner of Youth and Sports Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, former Commissioner of Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Adams Aliyu Kibiya, former Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs Hon. Nasiru Sani Garo, former Commissioner of Special Projects The commission has assured that investigations will continue to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the vehicles’ misuse or misappropriation.
