By Henry Umoru, Abuja ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set a target of N23.8 billion as internally generated revenue (IGR) for the 2026 fiscal year, representing an increase of N4 billion over its 2025 projection. Out of the proposed N23.8 billion IGR, the examination body said N6 billion would be remitted to the Federal Government’s federation account as operating surplus. Presenting the 2026 revenue target and budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, a Director in the office of the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Dr. Muftau Bello, disclosed that JAMB has proposed a total budget profile of N30.6 billion for 2026. “A total of N30.6 billion budget profile is proposed by JAMB in 2026, out of which N23.8 billion is to be generated internally, while N6 billion will be remitted into the federation account as operating surplus for the year,” Bello said. 2025 Performance On the board’s 2025 budget performance, Bello informed the committee, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse (APC, Katsina South), that JAMB generated N18.5 billion as IGR during the fiscal year and remitted N4 billion to the federation account. 2026 UTME Preparations Speaking on preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Bello said JAMB has created 1,000 examination centres, an increase from the fewer than 800 centres used in 2025. Members of the committee commended the board’s performance under Prof. Oloyede’s leadership. However, Senator Yohanna Amos (Adamawa North) urged the board to consider reducing the examination fee from the current N3,500. In response, Bello explained that the UTME fee was previously N5,000 before it was reduced to N3,500 by the current Registrar.
