Iran: Fuel price hike unnecessary – Adeyanju

By Gabriel Ewepu ABUJA – Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, on Tuesday described the recent increase in petrol prices by Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals and other players in the petroleum sector as unnecessary. Adeyanju argued that the products currently being supplied were refined long before the recent escalation of hostilities in the Gulf region. He questioned why Nigerians should bear the burden of a price increase tied to events that did not affect the cost of already-refined stock. He added that Dangote Refinery purchases crude oil domestically, and the President approved the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to sell crude oil to the refinery in Naira. Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals recently raised the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, by N100 per litre, while partner retail outlets, including MRS Oil Nigeria Plc and NNPC Limited, have implemented similar increases at the pump.
