By Emmanuel Iheaka The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has downplayed the recent defection of some of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party remains strong and united. In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lancelot Obiaku, the PDP said those who left did so after failing to advance their personal ambitions within the party. The statement emphasised that the party is better off without members who were not fully committed. “The party states categorically that these individuals were never fully committed members of the PDP. Their departure is neither a loss to the party nor a setback; rather, it strengthens our unity and focus,” the statement read. PDP also highlighted its recent activities, including the Imo PDP Women Summit, as evidence of the party’s widespread support across the state. Thousands of women participated in the event, reflecting the party’s continued engagement with its grassroots base. The party said it remains focused on upcoming programmes and preparations for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring members and supporters that it is well-positioned to maintain its leadership and influence in Imo State.
