Immigration officer found dead in Calabar

By Ike Uchechukwu, CALABAR An officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) identified as Benson Akpama, has been found dead in his apartment in Calabar, Cross River State capital. Vanguard gathered that the 30-year-old officer was found dead in his room at No. 34 Mbora Street, Etta-Agbor, Calabar Municipality at the weekend. An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard that Joy Benson, a sibling to the deceased who stays at Holland Street, informed the police about his younger brother’s sudden and “unnatural” death on Friday. Immediately, the police visited the scene where the remains were observed. Police sources said no visible marks of violence were discovered on the body and no foul play was initially suspected. The corpse was subsequently evacuated to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) for preservation and autopsy. When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, told confirmed the incident “We are investigating the matter, but no arrest has been made so far, but we will keep you abreast as we progress,” he said.
