Zamfara State Environmental Protection and Enforcement Agency (ZEPEA) said it has successfully conducted its third monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state capital. The exercise which took place on the first Saturday of the month, recorded with remarkable impact and visible improvements across the Gusau metropolitan area. The exercise covered key environmental activities including drainage evacuation, street sweeping, enforcement operations to ensure compliance, and the evacuation of solid waste from communal dump sites to designated permanent dumping sites. A statement by Sani Mohammed Mayanchi, Permanent Member I, in the agency said this was achieved through the effective deployment of heavy-duty trucks and a pay loader recently released by the Governor Dauda Lawal. He said these resources reflect the Governor’s passion and strong commitment to making Zamfara State one of the cleanest and healthiest states in the nation, in line with his vision for public health and environmental sustainability. The exercise also featured the arrest, judgment, and imposition of fines on environmental defaulters and violators, in accordance with existing sanitation and environmental laws. Residents of the Gusau metropolitan area demonstrated commendable cooperation by complying with the sit-at-home directive and actively cleaning their premises and surrounding environments, contributing greatly to the overall success of the exercise. This achievement was made possible under the able leadership of the Executive Chairman of ZEPEA, Abdullahi Zangina Yarin Gusau, with the full support and dedication of agency directors, officers and staff.
