Gov. Yusuf’s ally Doguwa emerges Kano APC chairman

By Bashir Bello A political ally of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the former Commissioner of Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has emerged as the new Chairman of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano State. Doguwa emerged as the chairman of the party after handing over to the outgoing chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, over 10 years ago. He emerged alongside 35 others, including Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo (Vice Chairman), Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Bichi (Secretary), Nura Yaro (Assistant Secretary), Abdul Adamu Fagge SAN (Legal Adviser), Bar. Bashir Yusuf (Assistant Legal Adviser), Kabiru Sule Rogo (Treasurer), Umar Yusuf Umar (Assistant Treasurer), Ma’aruf Abdullahi Garo (Financial Secretary), Mustafa Muhammad Kalwa (Assistant Financial Secretary), Dr. Kabiru Zawaciki (Organising Secretary), Barr. Abdulsalam Umar (Assistant Organising Secretary). Others included Auwalu Abdullahi (Publicity Secretary), Sani Fatal (Publicity Secretary), Bashir Mai Sango (Welfare Secretary), Garba Hussaini (Assistant Welfare Secretary), Abubakar Salisu (Auditor), Nura Muhammad (Assistant Auditor), Fatima Abdullahi Dala (Women Leader), Habiba Abdullahi Takai (Assistant Women Leader), Salisu Yahaya (Youth leader) Mussadiq Wada (Assistant Youth Leader) and Nura Umar Malami (Leader, Person With Disabilities) among others. The party executives were elected through affirmation by the 2,420 delegates from across the 44 local government areas of the state. The national party official, Latep Dabang, presided over the state congress held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium. Dabang said the newly elected officials are to run the affairs of the party for the next four years. According to him, “We have before us, about 36 ballot boxes which we have prepared, that we are going to conduct election. But we have been informed that with the interventions of the stakeholders, today’s election is going to be by way of consensus. I can understand it even from the expression on the faces of your delegates that they are very happy with the decisions that you have taken,” Dabang said. In his acceptance speech, Doguwa promised not to relent in his efforts to ensure the unity of the party and also its victory in the 2027 general elections, both in the state and nation at large. Earlier, the outgoing chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said that, whether by hook or crook, the party will deliver victory to Governor Yusuf and Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. He solicited the continuous support and cooperation of members to the new leadership in order to consolidate the party’s gains in the state. Meanwhile, the Congress was attended by top political personalities in the state such as Governor Abba Yusuf, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Abba Bichi, Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibrin Falgore, 2023 APC gubernatorial candidate running mate, Sule Garo, former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo and Abdulkarim Abdulsalam AA Zaura, among others.
