Brethren, yesterday was Valentine’s Day. True it’s not in the Bible but Love also called Charity is noted in the Holy Bible. While we may not focus on love the way the world sees it, even as Christians, we cannot deny that it is love that sustains marriage, it is love that sustains a home, it is love that sustains relationships either platonic or otherwise. The stories of Isaac and Rebecca, Hannah and Elkanah confirm that without love without a forgiving spirit, we may by ourselves hinder our prayers. The two couples mentioned experienced delays in child bearing. Beloved, if this is your condition today, bear in mind that it didn’t start with you. As these couples over came delay in child bearing, you too will overcome in Jesus name. Genesis 25 vs. 21-23 ( KJV): “ And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived”. And the children struggled together within her: and she said, if it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb........” Isaac did not see the challenge as Rebecca’s alone. The saw it a as challenge to their marriage and were determined to overcome with the help of God. Imagine the names that people might have called Rebecca but Isaac stood by his wife. He didn’t even think of having a second wife, love sustained their marriage and God gave them double for their waiting. Another example was Elkanah and Hannah though an impatient Elkanah married Penninah apparently because Hannah was barren, the Bible still records his love for Hannah. 1st Samuel 1 (4-5) : “ And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Penninah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb”. Note that though, he had a second wife, he still loved Hannah hence he gave her a worthy potion. Let’s see how God showed up for Hannah after she prayed “ in bitterness of soul” and made a vow. Verses 19 &20 of the same chapter tells us more. : And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house in Ramah; and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD”. Hannah fulfilled her vow to return Samuel to the LORD’s service and the Almighty God rewarded her. Samuel the special gift of God to Hannah later because became the General Overseer of Israel and also a Judge of the people.` Verse 21 states: “ And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD”. Beloved, you would see that Hannah fasted while others made merry. At a time like this, it doesn’t matter what is happening around you, fasting and prayer should be on your personal time -table. In the two cases, we mentioned, God gave them more than they asked for. The Lord turned the years of waiting to uncommon celebration. As a Christian, fasting does not mean you shouldn’t express love to your spouse. Find a away to break the fast in a way that gives both of you pleasure.God is not against romance in a marriage. The more couples show love to each other, to more likely they get the attention of God. A Biblical statement on love for us is found in 1st John 4 vs. 8&9: “ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this, was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him”. Brethren, the Holy Bible is unambiguous, “ God is love”. Beyond couples, even as you are fasting, remember the less privilege especially, children in the orphanage.Another way of expressing love at this time, is to support evangelism. Donate to your church to support evangelism and you will help many that are not Believers to believe in Christ and enjoy the love of Christ. The Holy Bible tells us in Proverbs 19 vs. 17: “ He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again”. Beloved, the greatest expression of love is found John 3 vs. 16 &17 : “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved”. Beloved, God has not forgotten you. The years of waiting would soon turn to celebration. Are you saying, the cases mentioned were old time stories? Not exactly so . Recently, a couple testified to the goodness of the Lord that gave them a baby girl after years of waiting. Her husband is 55 years and wife 54 years. Medically, they would have been written off. A woman over 45 years is said to have reached menopause.Where science reads ‘ pause’ God presses the START button.Beloved, in any home where love is absent, Satan will dominate. Therefore do not allow Satan to rob you of your blessings. Whatever people may say about you, remains focused and be confident that the love of Christ would see you through. Jesus said, in John 10 vs. 10: “ The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. Beloved sister, don’t let rumour mongers throw spanners into marriage. Turn a deaf ear to them. Continue to trust in God and show love to your husband. Satan tried to ruin the marriage of Abraham and Sarah when she told her husband to go into Hagar her maid. Immediately Hagar got pregnant, the Bible records in Genesis 16 vs. 4 “ And he went into Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes”. But true love sustained them as they both remained confident that the promised child would still be born. You know the story. Isaac the promised child was born when no one expected Sarah to bear a child. Brethren, God is love, express love to your spouse irrespective of the challenge in your marriage, show love to the less privileged to and God that is love would visit you. Shalom!
