Since its debut in 2016, the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has largely been ruled by athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia. The annual race, which holds Gold Label status, takes place in Lagos and has steadily gained global recognition. The first edition was staged on February 6, 2016, attracting more than 20,000 runners from across the world. Over the years, the marathon has expanded in scale and prestige, drawing increased sponsorship, a growing pool of participants, and a rising number of spectators and athletics enthusiasts. The Kenyans won the marathon in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 and now 2026. Kenyan runner, Ezra Kering, on Saturday, February 14, breasted the tape in 2 hours, 11 minutes to emerge winner of the 2026 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and claim the $50,000 prize money. Here is a full list of winners: 2016: Abraham Kiptum ran 2 hours and 39 minutes. 2017: Abraham Kiptum defended his title, set a new record. 2018: Kenyan Abraham Kiprotich wins with 2 hours, 13 minutes 2019: Ethiopian Sintayehu Legese won the male category with 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 28 seconds. 2020: Kenyan Olympian, David Barmasai emerged the winner with 2 hours and 10 minutes. 2021: Kenyan Emmanuel Naibei emerged as the winner with 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 04 seconds. 2022: Ulfata Deresa of Ethiopia emerged winner after running the 42 km race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 54 seconds. 2023: Edwin Kibet of Kenya emerged winner after returning a time of 2:14:0. 2024: Kenyan runner, Bernard Sang emerged as the winner after clocking a time of 02:16:49. 2025: Edwin Kibet of Kenya emerged winner after a record of 2 hours and 14 minutes. 2026: Ezra Kering of Kenya won the race in 2 hours, 11 minutes and 55 seconds.
