By Umar Yusuf, Yola Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs under former President Goodluck Jonathan, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a four-paragraph letter dated February 9, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of his PDP ward in Shangui, Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Dr. Hong described the decision as personal, taken after consultations with his family, friends, and political associates. He said it followed careful reflection on the prevailing political circumstances in the country and considerations about his political future. “I have therefore decided to withdraw my membership from the party,” the letter read. Dr. Hong expressed gratitude to the PDP for its role in shaping his political career. “I wish to thank the party at ward, local, and state levels for the opportunity to serve under them,” he stated. He added that while he takes this step, he will continue to cherish the contributions of the PDP to his political journey.
